a spending problem for the president to say there is really no great urgency to balancing the budget or harry reid saying there is no rush too deal with entitlements this year. but for house democrat to double down on spending stupid by pushing more stupid spending, well, you got to wonder. but this is true, they want more stimulus about $200 million more, who can blame them, clearly none of their leaders are trying to stop them or remotely discourage them. and members of pear are not block -- of their party are not exactly blocking them. i don't think their intention was to encourage this. they run for a immediate nicotine spending rush any time they can get it, they d got it,n them for pushing it, it on us if we allow it david walker said stimulus is not the solution, he is so sick of watching washington dance around this issue. he alone withlice rivlin, head vice chair making this video to sort of get the message to young and older americans alike, the can kicks back. but you know we're just, still kicking the can, what is going on. >> it would be nice if we had a presidential budget, the

? >> yeah, and i think the defeatest reaction to harry reid's move yesterday on saying that the assault weapons would be an amendment rather than part of the base package is wrong for a couple of reasons. one is we will get a skroet on assault weapons as an amendment. secondly, it's important to keep in mind the long view here. we're at the beginning of a process, not the end of the process. we are seeing, as david pointed out, not just in colorado but elsewhere, change in public opinion here. public opinion has clearly shifted on the side of sensible gun regulations along the lines we've been talking about, feinstein's proposal and others. what david is pointing out, what you are seeing is similar to the anti-tobacco debate and apartheid debate where congress and washington were the lagging indicators of public opinion so you saw a lot of action happening in the states. colorado is not just the only place, a number of there states are thinking object taking action. it's a much, much better indicator of how quickly public opinion is shifting on something. i think you will see movement i

that gives funding for school security. do you think harry reid made a good move? >> well, it's disappointing. but he's done the calculus and knows that an assault weapon bill will not pass the senate. sadly, i think he also knows that even in the democratically controlled senate, a background check for criminals, a universal background check for all of gun sales, including for criminals will not pass the senate. and it was certainly not going to pass the house. so that's what we're up against. and just so everyone is clear about this, you know, i'm a law-abiding gun owner. i own firearms, i go to a gun store where they run a background check. but it's perfectly legal in 33 states to buy guns from private dealers without a background check. so law-abiding gun owners go to gun stores, criminals go to private gun dealers legally and buy 1,000 weapons a day. it's amazing to me that our members of congress cannot find their backbone enough to require a criminal background check for criminals. >> well, senator feinstein and obviously the assault weapons ban was really what she was pushing hardest.
